Setting the record straight following the demolition of AZ Bukka under the urban renewal projects of Gov. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, it has become necessary for me to address certain misconceptions and set the record straight.

We have always been mentored that leadership requires courage and the ability to take tough decisions. Sometimes, old structures must give way for new developments intended for the greater good. While such decisions may be painful, they are often part of a broader vision for progress.

To those who are singlehandedly pointing fingers and describing this as a witch-hunt against me, I respectfully say that is not true. From my personal experience, the Governor is a simple and approachable leader. He has corrected me when necessary, guided me when needed, and the last time we spoke, he even prayed for me. He had intended to send his son, Hamid, to AZ bukka opening ceremony, but he was in school at the time.

Despite political differences he shares a cordial relationship with my boss SIA, he calls my boss kanina and my boss call him yayana. My brothers and sisters, when we respect our leaders, it becomes easier to access them and engage constructively.

However, we must also acknowledge the reality on ground in Jimeta today. Securing a good business location has become extremely difficult. Many demolished areas have not yet been replaced with alternative spaces. Landlords and caretakers have taken advantage of the limited availability by drastically increasing rents. Sadly, some business owners have lost everything they invested as a result of the demolition.

I prayed that our old location will not just be replaced with just a hospital fence.

And for those claiming negligence on my part, that narrative is incorrect. AZ Bukka was a 2024 vision project, completed early last year. I initially planned to personally oversee its operations, which caused a delay in the official launch.

We had fixed the grand opening for 7th December. However, on 2nd December, we received a 21-day notice. Out of respect for government directives, we paused and waited to see how events would unfold. Nothing happened within that period. By the first week of January, there were widespread rumors that the government was considering alternative options, as building a hospital in the town center was reportedly not well received. By the second week, there was still no official update. Based on that situation, we proceeded to open in the third week.

This was not negligence. It was a calculated decision made in good faith, based on the information available at the time.

While the demolition is painful and the losses significant, I remain respectful of constituted authority and hopeful that, in the spirit of development and fairness, solutions will be explored to cushion the effects on affected business owners.
